The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

20 July 2010 - At the invitation of the Sudanese Society for the Care of People Living with HIV, UNAMID participated in a discussion entitled "Let us all unite to fight Aids" on 19 July 2010. Those in attendance at the El Geneina, West Darfur event, expressed their willingness to work closely and collaboratively with the government and organizations to offer health care services and psycho-social support to people living with the virus. The Sudanese Society for the Care of People Living with HIV was established in 2008.
