19 October 2010 - UNAMID yesterday provided over 130 barrels of fuel to the West Darfur High-Level Committee on Farm Protection in support of its efforts to avert conflicts during the upcoming harvest season.

Earlier this month, UNAMID pledged nearly 250 barrels of fuel in logistical support of a state-wide sensitization tour to promote peaceful dialogue in rural farming communities.

The Committee is formed of local representatives from law enforcement agencies, state legislation, and farmers and pastoralist unions and aims at encouraging the voluntary return of displaced persons by increasing security, providing farm protection and reducing tensions between farmers and nomads.
