Closure of UNAMID

The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

02 Feb 11 - Villages abandoned following fighting in North Darfur

02 February 2011 - A UNAMID patrol travelled yesterday morning to Tabit, 37 km north of Shangil Tobaya, North Darfur, to assess the security situation following fighting in the area. The team confirmed that clashes occurred in Tabit vicinity and nearby villages were abandoned. The population reportedly fled to El Fasher and Shangil Tobaya.
