7 Feb 11 - UNAMID mission to site of fighting in North Darfur

07 February 2011 - On 5 February a UNAMID mission went to Tabit and Tukumara villages, located approximately 37km north of Shangil Tobaya, North Darfur, to meet with local leaders and assess the effects of recent intense fighting in the area.

Most of the civilian population is reported to have fled Tukumara to nearby mountains in the wake of the clashes. Within the next few days, UNAMID will conduct an assessment of basic humanitarian needs. The Mission will also work with UNICEF to rebuild a destroyed water pump.
