Closure of UNAMID

The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

22 Mar 11 - UNAMID meets with SLA Abdul Wahid

22 March 2011 - UNAMID Joint Special Representative (JSR) Ibrahim Gambari and other Mission senior officials yesterday met in Kampala with a delegation of the Abdul Wahid faction of the Sudanese Liberation Army. The talks focussed on cooperation and coordination between UNAMID and the armed movements to facilitate the Mission’s core mandate of protecting civilians; opening lines of communication between the parties; and, the establishment of a humanitarian security corridor to eastern Jebel Marra, among with other matters.
