Closure of UNAMID

The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

23 Mar 11 - Blue helmets in stable condition following attack

23 March 2011 - Two UNAMID peacekeepers injured yesterday afternoon in an attack in Masteri, West Darfur, are reported to be in stable condition at the Mission’s Level II hospital in El Geneina. Three people have been captured by UNAMID soldiers in relation to the attack and handed over to Sudanese Government police forces. The Mission’s Force Commander, Lt Gen Patrick Nyamvumba, today travelled to El Geneina to visit the peacekeepers.
