During the event the Force Commander handed over the keys of the school, located in Turba village, nearby El Fasher, North Darfur, to the community leaders.

“As peacekeepers we are committed to make a difference for the people of Darfur. We are aware that you are in need of security, education and health. We may not do everything, but together with you, we will try to solve most of your demands, because this will contribute to bring sustainable peace,” said Nyamvumba.

The facility, consisting of two classrooms and an office, will allow more than one hundred students from Turba and the neighboring village of Manara, to attend school near their homes.

Desks, chairs, books and other equipment will be installed in time for the start of the new school year, and additional classrooms will be built in a second phase of the project.

The event featured a youth choir, traditional music and dance.
