Closure of UNAMID

The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

03 May 11 - UNAMID builds local capacities on democratic systems in North Darfur village

03 May 2011 - A UNAMID-organized workshop on the roles of traditional leaders and civil society organizations in democratic systems concluded today in Um Kadada, North Darfur. The objective was to build local capacities and knowledge of democratic systems to facilitate the Mission’s efforts in bringing a durable solution to Darfur conflict and engaging local leaders in the peace process.

About one hundred participants including civil society organizations, native administration leaders, youth and women groups, academia, and trade unions attended the two-day workshop.
