Closure of UNAMID

The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

17 May 11 - Peacekeepers denied access to air strike locations

17 May 2011 - UNAMID verification teams attempting to reach populations in the Labado and Esheraya regions of South Darfur, the site of recent air strikes, were not allowed access today by Government forces due to security concerns, particularly as a result of armed movements operating in the areas.
