The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

15 Aug 11 - Dutch Special Envoy for Sudan visits North Darfur

15 August 2011 - The Dutch Special Envoy for Sudan, Desiree Bonis, accompanied by the Ambassador of the Netherlands in Khartoum, arrived today in El Fasher, North Darfur, for a two-day visit to the region. The delegation was welcomed by UNAMID’s Joint Special Representative, Ibrahim Gambari, at the Mission’s headquarters and hold meetings with UNAMID senior officials, UN Agencies, humanitarian workers and civil society organizations.

This trip marks the first visit of Ms. Bonis to Sudan and is aimed at gaining first-hand knowledge of the security and humanitarian situation in Darfur, the peace process and the work of UNAMID in the field.
