The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

15 Sept 11 - UNAMID Peacekeepers provide medical relief in West Darfur camp


15 September 2011 -- On 14 September, a UNAMID patrol team accompanied by a Level I Clinic group visited Al Riyad IDP camp located about 10 kilometers south west of El Geneina in West Darfur. The team conducted medical consultation and dispensed treatment to more than 70 persons including women and children.

The operation was part of the Mission’s quick impact project to address the needs of local populations, and will also
serve to strengthen relations between UNAMID and the host communities.

The camp residents expressed their deep appreciation to the troops and requested continued assistance.
