The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

First batch of more than 140 Zambian police officers joins UNAMID

2 June 2009 - The first batch of more than 140 Zambian police officers has arrived in El Fasher, North Darfur, to start work with UNAMID.

Thirty-four male officers and three female officers arrived today in El Fasher and will begin induction training before they are deployed across the region. Another three batches of Zambian officers are scheduled to reach the Mission later this week. When the deployment is completed, UNAMID will have more than half of its authorized strength of police advisers on the ground.
