The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

UNAMID Police Commissioner to lead Mission personnel on four-day long range patrol

20 July 2009 -- Tomorrow, UNAMID Police Commissioner, Michael Fryer, will lead UNAMID police and civilian staff members on a four-day long range patrol from El-Fasher to Kabkabiya and back, covering a distance of more than 300 kilometres. The patrol is being conducted as part of the Mission’s efforts to establish stronger communication with Darfurians and to monitor the situation of returnees on the ground, especially those from Chad.The first leg will end at Tawila, about 60 kilometres from El-Fasher, to visit newly returned internally displaced persons there.

The UNAMID convoy will stop at villages, internally displaced persons (IDP) camps and farms along the way where UNAMID officials will have the opportunity to interact with residents of local communities.

The patrol is expected to end on Friday 24 July.
