The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

UK peacekeeping advisor visits UNAMID

15 March 2010 - UNAMID today received a visit from Mr. Chris Hunter, United Kingdom government advisor on African UN peacekeeping missions, and senior political advisors from the British Embassy.Mr. Hunter met with the JSR and Deputy Force Commander Maj Gen Duma Dumisani Mdutyana to gain a better understanding of the Mission’s deployment and how the UK can best target its support.

While in El Fasher, the delegation also visited the UNAMID team site in Zam Zam IDP camp, where they spoke with sheikhs (elders) and other camp representatives.

The United Kingdom is one the major donors to the Mission, providing significant financial support towards resolving the conflict.
