The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

DJSR Yonis meets Sudanese Minister of Interior

26 May 2010 -- UNAMID Deputy Joint Special Representative (DJSR) Mohamed Yonis met today with the Sudanese Minister of Interior, Ibrahim Mahmoud Hamid. The meeting discussed bilateral cooperation between UNAMID and Government of Sudan police forces, implementation of the decisions taken by the African Union-United Nations-Government of Sudan Tripartite Committee Mechanism meeting recently held in Addis Ababa, and the security situation in Darfur.

The Minister expressed his satisfaction with the level of cooperation between the Government and UNAMID, noting his appreciation to UNAMID for training ten thousand police personnel to secure elections in Darfur, and the Mission’s logistical support during the elections. He also briefed the DJSR on the Ministry’s plans to combat robbery and assault on UNAMID personnel and international organizations operating in Darfur.

Mr. Yonis reaffirmed UNAMID’s readiness to work for the restoration of stability and lasting peace in Darfur.
