The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

Zalingei court refurbished by UNAMID

As part of a quick impact project (QIPs), UNAMID sponsored the rehabilitation of the rural court facilities in Zalingei, Central Darfur, and the construction of a perimeter wall. The project was designed to create a conductive working environment that will assist in resolving disputes and problems faced by the rural population in the area.Addressing the inauguration event on 21 September, UNAMID Head of Office in Central Darfur, Mr. Lameck Kawiche, explained that the essence of this support is to support the promotion of rule of law in the State.

On his part, the Prosecutor, Mr. Hatim Hassan, expressed appreciation to the Mission and reiterated his commitment to work with the Mission in addressing human rights issues in the region.
