The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

Voters go to the polls in Sudan's historic ballot

11 April 2010 - Voting began today in the Sudan's first multiparty elections since 1986. The national ballot will take place over a three-day period in the country's 25 states, three of which are in Darfur.

Of the Sudan's 16 million eligible voters, 3.6 million are registered in Darfur. The figure represents 67 percent of the region's registered voters.

UNAMID has been tasked with training 10,000 Sudanese Police on election security and providing logistical support to the Sudanese National Elections Commission and other relevant authorities.
