The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

UNAMID sees increase in women officers

25 April 2010 - 50 female police advisors from Ghana deployed to Darfur yesterday, bringing the total number Ghanaian women officers in UNAMID to 110. Upon completing induction courses, the officers will be deployed to various areas of Darfur.The Mission’s police are tasked with conducting patrols in and around internally displaced persons camps, providing escort duties in villages and towns throughout Darfur, training local officers, and setting up gender-based activities for local women and children.

UNAMID’s police strength currently stands at 4,719 officers, of which 430 are women. Ghana represents among the largest police-contributing countries to the Mission.
