The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

13 March 2012 - UNAMID launched today a two-day medical camp for inmates at Nyala Central prison, South Darfur. The exercise, organized in collaboration with the State Ministry of Health and the UN World Health Organization (WHO), is aimed at assisting prisoners who don’t have regular access to health services at the detention center.

The peacekeepers provided consultation and treatment for more than 300 prisoners suffering from various ailments and distributed various medications as needed. They also advised the inmates on health and hygiene matters.

The Mission’s Military Medical Team includes personnel from Pakistan, China, Egypt, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Nepal and Sierra Leone.
