United Nations - African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur
Closure of UNAMID
The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.
On 6 April 2014, as part of its ongoing effort to support local communities across Darfur, UNAMID collaborated with Women for Peace in Sudan (WPS), a local NGO, to conduct a street-cleaning campaign in El Daein. Members of the community, including Sudanese police officers, participated in the day-long cleanup activities alongside UNAMID peacekeepers and WPS workers.
