Closure of UNAMID

The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

UNAMID Organizes workshop on Human Rights and Child Protection in Sector East

On 21 July 2016, UNAMID`s Police in East Darfur organized a training workshop on human rights and child protection for 40 displaced people as community volunteers (26 females and 14 males at Khor Omer camp for the internally displaced persons.

Addressing the participants at the closing ceremony, Lieutenant Goregoury Nitityia, Police Advisor, noted that the workshop aimed at raising awareness among the community of the displaced. He explained that woman plays a vital role in the education of children, and encouraged them to share the knowledge gained with their respective communities. “Women rights has to be respected by their husbands and fathers”, said Goregoury.

On his part, Ali Abass, Youth Union Leader at the camp, appreciated UNAMID’s police for their continuous efforts in organizing such workshops for the displaced in Darfur. He stated that women in particular should be able to defend and protect themselves and increase awareness on the importance of children rights in health and education.
