The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

UNAMID Deputy visits Nyala in show of support for missing staff

15 April 2010 - UNAMID Deputy Joint Special Representative (DJSR) Mohamed Yonis today visited Nyala, South Darfur, to meet with the staff of UNAMID Sector South (Nyala) and convey his solidarity to them following the abduction of their colleagues.At a meeting with the Wali (Governor) of South Darfur and other Sudanese State officials, DJSR Yonis conveyed Professor Gambari’s concern for the early and safe release of the hostages.

The Wali offered his full support and noted that security forces had strong leads on the abductors. He called for patience, stating that national security was handling the situation meticulously in order not to endanger the lives of the four peacekeepers.
