The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

UNAMID Deputy Joint Special Representative visits South Darfur

10 February 2010 - UNAMID Deputy Joint Special Representative (DJSR), Henry Anyidoho today travelled to South Darfur’s capital Nyala, accompanied by UNAMID Police Commissioner, Micheal Fryer.Upon arrival, DJSR Anyidoho paid a courtesy call to the interim Wali (Governor) of South Darfur, Dr. Omer Abdul Gabar. During the visit, the Wali expressed his gratitude at the Mission’s cooperation and outlined some of his office’s priorities, which include providing greater security for the local population as well as the construction of a road between Nyala to Khartoum.

The DJSR also visited Kalma IDP camp, located about 7 kilometres outside Nyala, to meet with UNAMID Police Advisers stationed at the camp. The delegation was briefed on UNAMID police activities in the region and also heard the concerns of the camp’s internally displaced persons.
