The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

UN peacekeeping chief continues visit to Darfur

9 October 2008 -- Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Alain Le Roy met with internally displaced persons (IDPs) in El Fasher, North Darfur. He also addressed personnel of the African Union-United Nations mission in Darfur (UNAMID) in a Town Hall meeting and met with Minni Minawi, leader of the Sudan Liberation Army (SLA/MM) and signatory to the Darfur Peace Agreement (DPA).

The visit to Darfur took place yesterday as part of Mr. Le Roy’s familiarization visit to Sudan.
