Closure of UNAMID

The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

Nepalese advance companies arrive

1 November 2009 -- 61 Nepalese Special Force Reserve Company personnel and 61 Sector North Reserve Company personnel arrived in EL Fasher on 27 October 2009. The new arrivals are formed out of elite units with considerable combat and Peace-Keeping experience. Nepal already has 16 Staff Officers, 16 Military Observers, 7 Liaison Officers and 127 Protection Force elements working with UNAMID.
