The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

Mission leadership, Gambian contingent awarded peacekeeping medals

27 January 2010 - Today, at the UNAMID’s headquarters in El Fasher, North Darfur, 196 members of the Mission’s Gambian military contingent were honoured with peacekeeping medals in recognition of their work in pursuit of peace and stability in Darfur.

In appreciation of their support and guidance in the pursuit of peace, medals were also presented to UNAMID Deputy JSR Henry Anyidoho, Force Commander Lt Gen Patrick Nyamvumba, and Deputy FC Major Gen Duma Mdutyana.

JSR Ibrahim Gambari, guest of honour at the ceremony, commended the contingent’s selflessness, determination and diligence which “has earned and will continue to earn the gratitude of the UN and the AU.”
