Closure of UNAMID

The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

JSR Adada and other senior UNAMID officials visit Nyala and Kalma IDP camp

19 October 2008 -- UNAMID Joint Special Representative (JSR), Rodolphe Adada, travelled to Nyala, Sector South, on a working visit. He was accompanied by Deputy Force Commander, Major General Emmanuel Karake Karenzi; Police Commissioner, Michael Fryer; and other senior officials.
During his trip the JSR met with the Governor of South Darfur, Mr. Ali Mahmoud Mohammed, he also paid a visit to the Chinese Engineering Company at UNAMID Super Camp and commissioned the first drinkable water bore-hole drilled by the Company as part of a program designed to meet the important water needs in the area.

The JSR also returned to the Kalma IDPs Camp, where he met with the IDPs representatives, as part of UNAMID’s renewed initiative to strengthen contacts and communication with the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Darfur
