The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

Joint Special Representative Meets with AU Commission Chairperson

9 March 2009 -- The AU-UN Joint Special Representative, Mr. Rodolphe Adada, today met with the Chairperson of the AU Commission, Mr. Jean Ping, in Khartoum to discuss the current situation in Sudan, especially in the aftermath of the International Criminal Court’s announcement.The AU Chairperson urged UNAMID to continue discharging its responsibilities to help the people of Darfur.

Mr. Adada stressed that UNAMID has a specific mandate to implement, including providing protection for civilians and facilitating humanitarian assistance to those in need.

AU Commissioner for Peace and Security, Ambassador Ramtane Lamamra, was also present at the meeting.
