False information concerning armed robbery in South Darfur

6 August 2012 - The Mission reports that stories published by some Sudanese media outlets stating that UNAMID was robbed of money in South Darfur are incorrect.

The armed robbery of a Bank of Khartoum vehicle, which occurred on 5 August in Nyala, in fact involved the theft of an undisclosed amount of money belonging to the bank.

The vehicle, containing bank employees and a Sudanese police officer, had been on its way to UNAMID's Headquarters in Nyala. The Sudanese police have begun an investigation.
