The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

7 July 2010 - Two UNAMID vehicles were carjacked in separate incidents by unknown armed men yesterday in Nyala, South Darfur, at about 18:20hrs.

The first vehicle, belongs to Movement Control, was carjacked near Nyala airport, while the second, belonging to Water Sanitation, was carjacked near the UNAMID Super Camp. Both vehicles were driven by international staff members, who were both released unharmed.

The incidents were reported to the Government of the Sudan (GOS) police and an investigation is in progress.
