The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

29 June 2010 - As part of its capacity building programme, UNAMID organized a workshop at the University of Nyala, South Darfur, aimed at raising technological awareness, including a review of remote sensing and global positioning systems (GPS) and how technology can support managers at all levels for more informed decision making as well as map reading.

The two-day event was attended by more than 200 participants including, teachers and University students and officials from government institutions.
