The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

27 Jun 11 - UNAMID receives UN military chief

27 June 2011 - United Nations Military Chief of Staff, Brig. Gen. Jean Bailaud today visited UNAMID regional offices in South and West Darfur as part of a two-day visit to the region.

The General yesterday visited UNAMID’s headquarters in El Fasher, where he was welcomed by the Mission’s Acting Force Commander, Brig Gen David David Enetie.

The delegation was briefed on the Mission’s deployment status and Darfur’s current security situation. They also held intensive discussions on recent developments and current trends in the region. The team later met with peacekeepers stationed in Zam Zam team site, on the outskirts of El Fasher, to discuss challenges faced on the ground in carrying out the Mission’s mandate.
