Closure of UNAMID

The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

UNAMID mourns fallen colleagues

On 19 October UNAMID paid its last respects to the three Ethiopian peacekeepers who lost their lives in an attack by an unidentified group near Korma, North Darfur, on 16 October. The memorial ceremony took place at Mission headquarters in El Fasher, North Darfur, and was led by the UNAMID Force Commander, Lt.Gen. Paul Mella, and attended by outgoing Joint Special Representative Mohamed Ibn Chambas, Acting JSR Abiodun Bashua and other senior Mission personnel. Photos by Hamid Abdulsalam, UNAMID.
