22 June 2010 - UNAMID Force Commander Lt. General Patrick Nyamvumba traveled to Nertiti, located 165km southwest of El Fasher, North Darfur, today to pay respects to three peacekeepers who lost their lives yesterday while protecting civilian engineers.

In his visit to RWANBATT-18 (Rwandese 18th Battalion), the General, accompanied by senior military officers from the Mission’s Sector West Command, was taken to the site of the attack and was briefed on the circumstances surrounding the incident.

After observing a moment of silence, the Force Commander praised the troops for their commitment to Darfur and their swift response, adding “You have the inherent right to self defense.”
