Closure of UNAMID

The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

22 Dec 10 - Darfur civil society prepares for referendum

22 December 2010 - The University of El Fasher’s Center for Peace, Development Studies and Human Rights, in cooperation with UNAMID Political Affairs, held a one-day workshop in El Fasher, North Darfur, to promote an exchange of ideas on the South Sudan referendum and its outcomes by academics, civil society leaders and state officials.Over sixty participants attended the event, including representatives of the South Sudan Referendum Commission. The workshop aimed at emphasizing the importance of the referendum taking place within a peaceful context and explaining its implications to relevant stakeholders.

The UNAMID Civil Affairs component in Nyala, South Darfur, yesterday took part in a seminar entitled ‘Peace Building and Unity’ organized by Sudan Council of Churches in collaboration with the Nyala municipality. The meeting was attended by native administration leaders from 25 South Darfur localities as well as representatives of state officials and aid groups.
