Closure of UNAMID

The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

21 Jan 11 - Aid workers requested to leave West Darfur

21 January 2011 - UNAMID reports that following indications of threats and possible security risks, the Government of the Sudan yesterday requested that two staff with international NGO (INGO) Catholic Relief Services (CRS) leave West Darfur. The Mission has sent military patrols to assist in transporting the CRS staff members working for the INGO in the outlying areas of El Geneina, West Darfur, to safer locations.
