The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

20 September 2010 - UNAMID Joint Special Representative Ibrahim Gambari today officially opened the newly-built Nigerian Level II hospital in El Geneina, West Darfur.

The facility will be able to provide emergency medical care as well as first aid training and related workshops.

UNAMID isn’t an easy mission,” said the JSR, commending the hard work and dedication of the troops based there. “We are all here only to help the people of Darfur.”
