Closure of UNAMID

The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

19 Jun 11 - Clashes confirmed in Shangil Tobaya

19 June 2011 - UNAMID confirms fighting over the weekend between unknown armed men and the Sudanese Armed Forces in Shangil Tobaya, North Darfur. Close to 1,000 civilians sought shelter with UNAMID’s nearby team site. With the Mission's peacekeepers continuing to patrol the area, nearly all have now returned to their homes, although approximately 40 people remain.

While the number of fatalities has yet to be confirmed, the Mission yesterday evacuated 15 injured people on two of its helicopters to El Fasher hospital for treatment.
