The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

19 Aug 12 - UNAMID acting head saddened by loss of life in today's plane crash

El Fasher, 19 August 2012 – The Acting Joint Special Representative of the African Union - United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), Ms. Aichatou Mindaoudou, is saddened by today's plane crash which took the life of an entire delegation chaired by the Minister of Guidance and Endowments, Mr. Ghazi Al-Saddiq, as well as the crew. The plane went down near Talodi, a town in the State of South Kordofan.

On behalf of UNAMID, Ms. Mindaoudou offers her deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of all victims and to the Government and the people of Sudan.
