The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

19 Apr 13 - UNAMID peacekeeper killed in attack on Muhajeria Team Site, East Darfur

El Fasher, 19 April 2013 - In the early morning hours of 19 April, one peacekeeper of the African Union - United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) was shot dead and two others injured in an attack by unidentified assailants on the Mission’s team site near Muhajeria, East Darfur State.

UNAMID is investigating the events surrounding the incident and working in coordination with Government of Sudan to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice, as any attack on international peacekeepers is a crime under international law.
