Closure of UNAMID

The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

18 April 11 - JSR meets with South Darfur humanitarians, state governor

17 April 2011 - UNAMID Joint Special Representative (JSR) Ibrahim Gambari today travelled to Nyala, South Darfur, where he met with the state government, UN personnel and representatives of the humanitarian community.

The JSR met with the Wali of South Darfur, Mr. Abdulhameed Musa Kasha, who commended the cooperation between UNAMID and local authorities. The Wali also requested the Mission’s support to returnee locations in the state.

During a discussion with aid workers operating in the region, the JSR pledged UNAMID protection for their staff members working in the Kalma Internally Displaced Persons camp, after several agencies temporarily scaled down work in the camp after a number of workers were taken hostage last week.
