17 Apr 12 - Darfuri civil society holds second workshop on Doha Document in Khartoum

17 April 2012 - The Khartoum-based Darfur civil society mechanism and UNAMID, in coordination with the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM) and the Khartoum State Government, held today the second workshop on dissemination of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur at Omdurman Shuhadda hall. The workshop was attended by 116 Darfuris, including parliamentarians, representatives of political parties, native administration, youth and women unions and Darfuri bar association.

Speakers at the workshop focused on power and wealth-sharing, basic human rights, land, reconciliation, security arrangements and implementation modalities. Discussions emphasised giving ownership of the agreement to stakeholders and media promotion of the Document.

Responding to participants’ comments, LJM representative and Secretary–General of the Darfur reconstruction fund, Hashim Haroun, said the workshops were transformed from dissemination workshops to an evaluation of the agreement.

For his part, the Federal State Minister and LJM member Ahmed Fadl said reactions to the workshops were favourable, welcoming critical opinions of the document to enrich its content.
