Closure of UNAMID

The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

15 May 11 - New UNAMID Deputy Joint Special Representative appointed

15 May 2011 - New UNAMID Deputy Joint Special Representative (Political), Aïchatou Mindaoudou Souleymane, of Niger was appointed on 13 May by the Chairperson of the African Union, Jean Ping, and the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Having served most recently as Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of her country for 10 years, Ms. Mindaoudou brings to her new position in UNAMID the experience of a long and distinguished career with the Government of Niger. She previously served as Minister for Social Development, Population and Promotion of Women’s Rights.

Ms. Mindaoudou will work closely with JSR Ibrahim Gambari and Deputy JSR for Operations and Management Mohamed Yonis to support the implementation of the Mission's mandate.
