The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

13 Jan 11 - WFP air crew abducted in West Darfur

13 January 2011 - Three Bulgarian air crew members working for the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service, managed by the UN World Food Programme, were today abducted in Um Shalaya, located 60 kilometers southeast of El Geneina, West Darfur. The incident occurred as the crew landed their helicopter at approximately 10:35hrs and were subsequently met by unknown armed men. No further details are available at this time.
