The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

El Fasher, 12 November 2008 – The African Union - United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur, UNAMID, welcomes the announcement of an immediate ceasefire in Darfur made today by Sudan President Omar Hassan El Bashir at the closing session of the Sudan People’s Forum.

This ceasefire could signal the start of a new phase in the search for a just and lasting peace in Darfur.
