Closure of UNAMID

The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

12 Dec 10 - US Special Envoy visits Darfur

12 December 2010 - United States Special Envoy to the Sudan, Scott Gration, concluded yesterday a three-day visit to Darfur to discuss the security and humanitarian situation with UNAMID and other international partners. On Thursday, Gration met with the Mission’s leadership in El Fasher, and departed the following day by road to Nyala.

Special Envoy Gration was accompanied during the trip by Force Commander Lt Gen Patrick Nyamvumba, Acting Deputy Joint Special Representative Margaret Carey, and Deputy Police Commissioner Hester Adriana Paneras. The convoy made a stopover at the Mission’s Community Policing Centers in Shangil Tobaya, North Darfur, and Menawashei, South Darfur.

Yesterday, the US delegation visited Kalma, Tagwa and Otash internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in South Darfur.
