The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

11 November 2010 - Two-day workshops for registration officers for the South Sudan referendum concluded today in El Fasher and El Geneina. A similar workshop has started in Nyala. These workshops are organized by the South Sudan Referendum Commission (SSRC), with support from UNMIS.

The registration period for the South Sudan population will start on Monday, 15 November and will last 17 days. In North Darfur, there will be three centers, in El Fasher, Kutum and El Lait. South Darfur will have 11 centers with two for West Darfur. Three registration officers will work in each center.

UNAMID will provide logistic support to UNMIS for the referendum process.
