Closure of UNAMID

The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

07 November 2010 - The Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator (USG/ERC), Ms. Valerie Amos, was today welcomed by UNAMID Joint Special Representative Ibrahim Gambari at UNAMID’s headquarters in El Fasher, North Darfur.

As part of a working tour of Sudan, USG Amos met with the Mission’s senior leadership to discuss ways of improving collaboration among humanitarian agencies and with local authorities to better serve the people of Darfur.
