The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

07 Feb 12 - UNAMID to destroy unexploded ordnance in South Darfur

07 February 2012 - UNAMID peacekeepers based in Khor Abeche, South Darfur, confirmed yesterday the presence of three unexploded ordnance (UXOs) in the vicinity. The Mission team marked the UXOs for a disposal operation that will be conducted shortly.

On 29 January, a eight-year boy was injured in the same locality with playing with an UXO.

UNAMID, with local partners, conducts regularly risk awareness raising activities throughout Darfur on the dangers of UXOs.
