Closure of UNAMID

The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

06 Mar 11 - UNAMID accesses Jebel Marra village

06 March 2011 - A UNAMID long-range patrol including civilian and uniformed personnel yesterday visited Fanga Suk village in Jebel Marra to assess the security situation there, which they reported to be calm. This was the first time the Mission could access this locality situated 60 kilometers southwest of Tawilla, North Darfur. The local community leaders complained about the serious situation due to recent aerial bombings in the vicinity. They also appealed for humanitarian assistance.
